I’m A Celebrity star Alan Halsall has revealed he received special treatment from ITV producers to cater to his dietary needs while in the jungle.

The Coronation Street star, 42, was a popular contestant in this year’s ITV show but was the seventh celebrity to be evicted in a double elimination alongside TikTok star GK Barry.

McFly’s Danny Jones was crowned king of the jungle, while Coleen Rooney was runner-up and Richard Coles ended his experience in third place.

Now, chatting to fans on an Instagram Q&A, Alan – who is known for his long-standing Corrie role as Tyrone Dobbs – admitted that he enjoyed different food to the other campmates.

‘Did you give up being veggie whilst in the jungle?’ asked a fan, to which Alan replied, according to The Mirror: ‘No they send a veggie equivalent. Generally something very bland, plain tofu… etc.’

While he didn’t munch on any chicken, Alan did use his mouth to move animal guts out of the way in a particularly gruesome bushtucker trial. Nice.

The show does usually cater for dietary needs and takes into consideration medical exemptions for the brutal trials – with N-Dubz star Tulisia and Richard sitting out of any height-related challenges – so Alan can’t have minded the gut-mouth contact.

In the jungle, Alan talked about being a vegetarian, which seems to be more of a habit than a conscious choice.

‘I have been my whole life. I have no idea why. The only explanation I’ve ever been given by my mum is that I’m just too lazy to chew meat!’ he said.

On leaving the jungle, Alan was pictured giving his daughter Sienna, 11, a huge hug in a heartwarming reunion.

In a recent interview Alan revealed that in their first FaceTime after his eviction they both cried.

He told The Sun: ‘As soon as we got in the car, my brother had his phone out and we FaceTimed.

‘The first ten minutes of the phone call was not much but tears, to be honest — on both sides.

‘She’d cry and I’d be crying. She said that she’s missed me, she loves me, she’s proud of me.

‘When she says that she’s proud of me, it could literally make your heart burst. That was a super, super-emotional phone call.’

This comes as Alan also confirmed he will be returning to Coronation Street on Monday after his Australian adventure.

‘Back to work Monday,’ he wrote, adding: ‘I can’t wait.’

The actor previously confirmed that his stint on the reality show wouldn’t lead to an exit for Tyrone, assuring fans that he would be back.

He said: ‘Corrie has been fantastic with it all and I am definitely not leaving the soap. You just won’t see my character for a while on-screen.’

It was recently revealed that Alan has signed a new Corrie contract, so will be sticking around on the cobbles for at least another year.

Alan has played the role of Tyrone in the ITV soap since 1998.
